Cloud computing equation

August 24, 2011 Leave a comment

Everyone is talking about cloud computing, wondering if your company should move into cloud?

Below is the equation to consider:

Cloud = Catalyst + Culture + Economics

Catalyst: Virtualization
It is the separation of software from hardware. Historically, deploying a given application required a server with dedicated storage. Today, that physical connection between software and hardware can be decoupled or virtualized.

Culture: IT landscape
Google CEO Eric Schmidt proclaimed, “When the network becomes as fast as the processor, the computer hollows out and spreads across the network.”

Demand for low cost, flexibility, scalability, reallocation.

Cisco: Shift to Cloud Computing

LED TV – Don’t be fooled!

March 26, 2011 Leave a comment

Thinking of buying an LED TV, well…you need to truly understand the technology.

TV manufacturers and the media are very good at convincing us that the latest products incorporate the most cutting edge technology and are a must have.

The truth!! Current LED TVs
The term ‘LED’ stands for Light Emitting Diode and you may well know LEDs are used in many of our devices at present, however in terms of the current line of LED TVs, the actual LEDs are used for the backlight of the TV ONLY and not the TV display panel. If you consider the current TV technology uses CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps), there is no doubt that an LED backlight is a more efficient form of backlight.

The important point here is that the current LED TVs display is actually LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), it is the backlight only that is made up of LEDs. Essentially it is only a more advanced form of LCD TV.

True LED display
Current true LED display is the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) which will self illuminate, utilizing an internal thin layer of LED for its display only.
